Wish Eligibility

Who is eligible for a wish?
The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Tri-Counties grants one special wish to children with a life-threatening medical condition who have reached the age of 2 ½ and are under the age of 18. A life threatening medical condition is a progressive, degenerative or malignant medical condition that has placed the child’s life in jeopardy. The Foundation’s Tri-Counties chapter serves children in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties.

Once a child is referred to us, his or her physician will be contacted. The physician will determine if the child is eligible for a wish.

Who can refer a child for a wish?
To respect the privacy of children and their families, a child may only be referred by one of these three sources:

  1. A medical professional - Doctor, nurse, social worker or child-life specialist
  2. The child’s parent or legal guardian
  3. The child himself or herself

If you are not one of these three sources, please contact the potential wish family and have them contact us at their convenience.
