Become a Volunteer

Bilingual volunteers are especially encouraged.

We have six volunteer positions available for adults: Wish Granter, Community Representative, Office Assistant, Board Member, Intern and Special Event Volunteer.

*We will not be placing new Wish Granters in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties until January 2015. Please feel free to submit your application. We will contact you when we have a class scheduled in your area. If you have any questions please email Candice Zamudio at pmnzhqvb@gev-pbhagvrf.jvfu.bet.

Part 2: Online and Training Enrollment

All volunteers must take online classes before attending any training. Once you have completed part 1 you will be notified to take the online training and at that time will be given a username and password to access those classes. After you have the online classes completed you can enroll in training by e-mailing genvavat@gev-pbhagvrf.jvfu.bet with the name and location of the class.

Volunteers as Ambassadors & Story Tellers 

2 hours – late afternoon/early evening times and dates to be determined

Volunteers with positive attitudes and a desire to promote Make-A-Wish in the community are invited to be part of this enrichment course. This is not a new position. It is an enrichment course for all volunteers in all positions.

When you register, please indicate which three questions below most interest you and also a training location and date.  Exact dates will be determine later for 2015 classes.

1.    What do I do when I have media at a wish?

2.    How can give compelling answers to questions and engage/involve the community?

3.    What are unique challenges and goals for this part of the chapter territory?

4.    What are our primary revenue sources?

5.    What personal introductions are helpful to the chapters?

6.    When I have an Adopt-A-Wish donor who is part of a wish, what does that mean and what do I do?

7.     How do I ask for local in-kind donations for wishes?

8.     Who are our local in-kind donors?

9.      What are the rules about asking for in-kind support?

10.    What can I do to help raise funds in this area?

Wish Granters

New Wish Granters attend both Wish Granter 101 and 201 in the area nearest their home. Experienced Wish Granters attend Wish Granting 201 annually.

Community Representative
New Community Reps attend Community Rep 101 in the area nearest their home. Experienced Community Reps do not need to be retrained annually but are welcome to attend for a refresher. Classes are 2 hours. Times are to be determined.

Office Assistant 

Once your application is reviewed and is chosen, all new office volunteers must attend Office 101 training at the Wish Center.

Part 3: Background Checks

Once the steps above are completed you will receive an email to conduct your background check. This email is sent out 1-2 weeks before each training.

You must complete your background check within 2 weeks of receiving the email. There is a $24.18 fee for this background check and is valid for a maximum of 3 years.
