Penelope loved all of the princesses, but Rapunzel was definitely her favorite. She wanted to have a, "happy safe place" to play and sleep.
There truly is Power in a Wish! We are fortunate to see this magic each day as we work with Wish Kids like Penelope, a 4-year old with congenital heart disease. Our curly-haired princess has been through a lot having undergone numerous surgeries and procedures, multiple hospital stays, and frequent blood draws. Her return home was never easy, and she always sought the comfort of snuggling up with her parents in their bed at night time as she was afraid to sleep in her room alone because of the memories it held for her. Penelope’s heartfelt wish was to have a “happy safe place” to play and sleep. And so, with assistance of numerous volunteers, Penelope’s bedroom was transformed into a magical fairytale featuring her favorite Princess, Rapunzel, whose golden locks of hair flowed all the way around the walls of her room. Every detail was important from a full-room mural, new bed and bedding, window coverings, rug, pillows to decorations and dolls. Her new princess bedroom was straight out of a storybook. And, of course, a princess bedroom would not be complete without a royal gold crown hanging above the bed! The expression on her face was priceless as she walked into her new and magical room of princesses. That night, she excitedly slept alone in her big girl room and didn’t want to leave it the next morning!
Penelope’s wish alleviated her fear and brought her a renewed sense of joy. This is the Power of a Wish!
